The family

We built it ourselves.

Villa Dolarosa was built by one Rotenese family. No foreign investors, no outside developer. The stone walls, the thatched roofs and the teak doors went up with our own hands, and our neighbours'.

When you stay here, you stay with the people who built it. We make your breakfast, get you out to T-Land, and tell you which road to take to the waterfall.

Rooms

Three ways to stay.

Every rate includes breakfast, Starlink and a boat trip to T-Land. Two guests per room; the Family Room sleeps up to five. Babies are welcome in their parents' bed.

Arched teak doors open onto a terrace, the pool, and the ocean beyond. Two rooms have a king bed. The third can be made up as a king or as twin beds; tell us which when you book.

Rote sits at the southern edge of Indonesia: dry, quiet, ringed by reef. These are the places we send our guests.

  • T-Land

    By boat · included

    A long left-hand reef break and one of the best-known waves in Indonesia. It works best in the dry season, roughly May to September. Your first boat trip is on us.

  • Dreamland

    Under 10 min drive

    The closest of the well-known beaches. Take the scooter and go in the late afternoon.

  • The waterfall

    Day trip

    Inland, away from the coast. We arrange a driver and tell you the best time to go.

  • Blue Lagoons

    Day trip

    Clear water for swimming. Easy to combine with the waterfall in one day.

  • Sunsets

    From the garden

    We're on the west coast. Around six, walk past the palms to the beach and watch the sun go down into the sea.

After dark

Evenings at Villa Dolarosa

The pool lights come on, the thatch glows warm and the garden goes quiet. Nothing is scheduled. You hear the sea past the palms, and not much else.

Location

Getting here.

Oenggaut, West Rote. Less than ten minutes' drive to Dreamland, and about an hour from Rote's airport and from Ba'a harbour.

  1. Fly to Kupang

    El Tari Airport (KOE), with connections through Bali and Jakarta.

  2. Cross to Rote

    Take the short flight to Rote, or the fast ferry from Kupang to Ba'a harbour.

  3. Our transfer, 1 hour

    We meet you at the airport or the harbour and drive you to Oenggaut. IDR 350,000.
